Section 01

Overview & Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the Chrome extension Keep Sidebar – Notes & Quick Capture (the “Extension”), developed and maintained by Lobhari Technologies Private Limited (“we”, “us”, or “our”).

Keep Sidebar allows users to create, view, and organize notes, checklists, reminders, and webpage captures directly within Google Chrome's native side panel. This document informs you in clear, transparent language about how information is accessed, stored, processed, and protected when you install and use the Extension.

Official Chrome Web Store Privacy Notice:

This policy is published pursuant to the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies and Google API Services User Data Policy. It accurately describes the actual, verifiable data flows implemented in the Extension's source code.

Section 02

Single Purpose & Extension Architecture

Under the Chrome Web Store Single Purpose Policy, the Extension has a single, narrow objective:

“To provide a streamlined, offline-first notes, checklist, webpage capture, and reminder management tool that operates inside Google Chrome's native Side Panel.”

Every feature, Chrome API permission, and data interaction exists solely to fulfill this single purpose. The Extension does not bundle unrelated tools, ad injectors, marketing overlays, or unannounced background routines.

Section 03

Information We Handle

The Extension processes only information that users explicitly create, capture, or configure. We do not passively gather background browsing habits or personal data.

Section 04

Local Storage & Offline-First Access

Keep Sidebar is engineered as an offline-first application:

Default Local-Only Mode: By default, all notes, checklists, labels, and settings are saved locally inside your browser using IndexedDB (database name: keep_sidepanel_db) and chrome.storage.local.

Zero Transmission in Local Mode: When used without signing in with Google, 100% of your notes remain strictly on your local machine. No data is transmitted across the internet to Lobhari Technologies or any third party.

Temporary Buffers: When you use context menus to save text from a webpage, a temporary record is placed in chrome.storage.local solely so the side panel can import it on launch. Reminder metadata is deleted immediately after the notification is triggered.

Section 05

Webpage Capture & Active-Tab Access

Keep Sidebar includes an active-tab capture tool and right-click context menus (“Save selection to Keep”, “Save page to Keep”).

On-Demand Access Only: The Extension accesses the active tab only and strictly at the moment you click capture. It does not monitor, inspect, log, or track your browsing activity, page visits, or web history.

Restricted URL Protection: Chrome security policies prevent script execution on sensitive browser surfaces (such as chrome://, edge://, and the Chrome Web Store). The Extension respects these boundaries and never attempts to bypass them.

No Keystroke or Form Logging: The Extension does not read user keystrokes, password fields, cookies, session storage, or form inputs from the websites you visit.

Section 06

Data Sharing, Sale & Disclosure

We do not sell user data. We have never sold, rented, leased, or traded user data, notes, or personal information to third parties, data brokers, or advertising networks, and we never will.

No Lobhari Server Access: Lobhari Technologies does not operate an intermediary cloud database, API proxy, or relay server for Keep Sidebar. We cannot view, read, analyze, or disclose your notes because they are not stored on our infrastructure.

Direct Cloud Synchronization: If you explicitly choose to sign in with Google to enable cloud sync, the Extension communicates directly and exclusively with Google APIs (https://www.googleapis.com) under your own Google account. Data is stored in your private Google Drive Application Data folder, governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Legal Disclosures: Because we do not possess or host your notes on company servers, we are unable to produce them in response to third-party or government subpoenas.

Section 07

Analytics, Tracking & Advertising (Zero Policy)

Strict Zero-Telemetry Policy

  • No Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or Sentry SDKs.
  • No third-party advertising scripts or tracking pixels.
  • No device fingerprinting, browser canvas reading, or ad IDs.
  • No tracking of notes created, words typed, or sites visited.

We believe that private notes should remain private. The Extension build contains zero telemetry or surveillance libraries.

Section 08

Google API Services User Data Policy Compliance

Keep Sidebar uses Google OAuth 2.0 to offer optional cloud backup to your personal Google Drive account.

Limited Use Disclosure:

Keep Sidebar's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

1. Narrow Scope: The Extension requests the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.appdata scope, which grants access only to the Extension's dedicated, hidden appDataFolder. The Extension cannot see, read, or modify any of your other Google Drive files, Google Docs, photos, or sheets.

2. No Commercial Exploitation: Google user data is never used for serving advertisements, retargeting, or credit assessment.

3. No AI/ML Training: We do not use information obtained through Google APIs to train generalized artificial intelligence or machine learning models.

4. No Human Viewing: No humans (including Lobhari staff) read your notes or Google Drive AppData file unless required for security investigations or with your explicit request for technical support.

Section 09

Chrome Permissions & Technical Justifications

In compliance with the Chrome Web Store Principle of Least Privilege, the Extension requests only permissions strictly necessary for its advertised features:

sidePanelUI Container

Required to open and render Keep Sidebar in Chrome's native side panel container alongside your active web page.

storageLocal Caching

Required for chrome.storage.local to buffer context menu quick captures and pass alarm notification payloads between background workers and the side panel interface.

contextMenusRight-Click Actions

Required to add “Save selection to Keep” and “Save page to Keep” options to your browser's right-click menu.

activeTabUser-Initiated Capture

Provides temporary, scoped permission to read the current tab's URL, title, and favicon only when you explicitly trigger a capture action.

scriptingText Extraction

Executes a lightweight snippet (window.getSelection()) on the active tab to grab your highlighted text when you choose to save a selection.

alarmsReminders

Required to schedule local timers so note reminders can fire at your chosen date and time, even if the side panel is temporarily closed.

notificationsDesktop Alerts

Required to display system notification banners when note reminders are due or when webpage captures succeed.

identityGoogle Sign-In

Uses chrome.identity.getAuthToken to obtain user-authorized OAuth access tokens for optional Google Drive cloud sync.

Section 10

Data Retention & Deletion Controls

You retain total sovereignty over your information. You can delete your data at any time using simple controls:

Deleting Individual Notes

Moving a note to Trash retains it in your Trash folder. Clicking “Delete forever” permanently purges the note from IndexedDB and removes it from your Google Drive backup on the next sync.

Clearing All Local Data

Uninstalling the Extension or clearing extension site data in Chrome (chrome://settings/content/all) immediately erases all locally cached IndexedDB databases and storage keys.

Deleting Google Drive AppData

In Google Drive on the web, click the gear icon → Settings → Manage Apps → find “Keep Sidebar” → Options → “Delete hidden app data” to delete your synced cloud file forever.

Revoking Account Access

You can disconnect your Google account inside the Extension settings, or revoke authorization globally in your Google Security Settings.

Section 11

Security Measures & Limitations

Architectural Security: Because Lobhari Technologies operates no central server or multi-tenant database for Keep Sidebar, there is no central repository of notes susceptible to server-side data breaches.

Encrypted Transmission: When synchronizing with Google Drive, all communication is encrypted in transit using industry-standard Transport Layer Security (HTTPS/TLS 1.3) directly between Chrome and Google's servers.

Honest Security Limitations: No software system is 100% immune to compromise. Local storage security depends on the security of your physical device, user account, and Chrome browser profile. We recommend keeping your operating system and browser up to date and securing your workstation with a lock screen.

Section 12

User Privacy Rights (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, India DPDP Act)

Regardless of your jurisdiction (including the European Union under GDPR, California under CCPA/CPRA, and India under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023), you hold the following rights:

  • Right of Access & Portability: You can export or copy all notes directly from your side panel or download your backup JSON from Google Drive AppData at any time.
  • Right to Rectification: You can edit any note, label, or checklist item directly in the interface.
  • Right to Erasure (“Right to be Forgotten”): You can permanently delete all notes from local storage and your cloud AppData folder.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: You can sign out of Google OAuth at any time to return to local-only mode.

Because Lobhari Technologies does not hold or store your notes on company servers, you can exercise these rights directly on your own device without submitting formal data subject requests. If you have questions, contact us at contact@lobhari.in.

Section 13

Children's Privacy

Keep Sidebar is a general-audience productivity tool. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in applicable European jurisdictions). If you become aware that a child has provided personal data through the Extension, please contact us at contact@lobhari.in, and we will guide you on removing local and cloud data.

Section 14

International Data Transfers

In local-only mode, your data never leaves your physical device. If you opt into Google Drive synchronization, your data is transferred directly to Google servers, which may be located in the United States or other countries, subject to Google's international data transfer frameworks.

Section 15

Changes to This Policy

We may revise this Privacy Policy when extension functionality, Chrome APIs, or regulatory requirements change. When changes occur, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.

If we introduce material changes to our data handling practices, we will provide prominent notice via the Extension's release notes in the Chrome Web Store and within the Extension interface.
